Is it really possible I might update?

Sat Oct 3, 2009, 12:01 AM
So... I'm thinking of doing the NaNoWriMo thing this year. I was just going to do it, but since :iconruadvin: apparently decided to go the whole nine yards with it once I told him about the event, maybe I will too. Either way, I was thinking of posting each day's writing here once I was finished with it, mostly to be posting something for goodness' sake.

The story I'll do is one I've been kicking around for a while, involving a gimmick guild (in this case, all the members go by a zodiac sign) in a PlanetSide/EVE Online-esque MMO (tentatively named Starslide). And that's about as far as I got in the three years since I came up with the idea.

But in the last week or so, I came up with some actual direction for the story! The way I have it planned now, it's going to be a slice-of-life work (probably as much a series of episodic chapters as an overarching thing) following the exploits of the Zodiac Squadron during the final days of the now-unprofitable game, as they deal with the planned shutdown of the servers they've played on so long. Almost the entire novel will be within the Starslide universe; right now I'm only planning on a single scene being held in the real world, but it's possible that'll change.

I think I need to plot out what happens when, especially since I'm planning to write it day-for-day. Ideally on November first I'll write what happens on November first in the story, then so on throughout the month until finally by midnight on the thirtieth I'll have written the server shutdown scene (and ergo the story will be done).

Something like this wouldn't have been possible without the downright manliness of everyone involved in the project.
